Gaming at SXSW 2011 - Not Huge But a Nice Bonus

Free was lucky enough to attend SXSW Interactive this year for work. Most of the conference (which was huge and very well attended) was focused on mobile, touch and social media development. There was a gaming presence too.

One interesting panel I attended was called "Reality is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better" -- note: gaming up to 28 hours a week can improve us as humans; more than 28 hours a week and you're an asshole playing with assholes. :)

The concept of gamification in marketing, crowd sourcing and social media appeared to be an emerging trend for the coming years. There were other gaming panels (mostly mobile and social) and the Screenburn Arcade where a handful of indie devs and publshers were showing off their wares. Have a look at a few iPhone photos I curated for the 2130.

Photo: Crazy VR mask game called Deep Sea. Not for sale, just proof of concept. Free did not put this on his head. I could see Armleg rocking that mask at Comic-con. See the rest of the photos.

Terrific pictures Free. Especially liked the reviews and seeing what you experienced. The mask was nice though might be smelly after a day of wearing it. Kind of like our car ride home a few years back...smelly. San Jacinto St was a nice touch by Austin. Gears Beta is a go go.
