Bioshock Brings Bites, Bruises, Brains, Buttkicking

OK Shark. This game has captured my attention more than any single player 360 game yet. I creep out fast and thought this one might put me over the edge to shut down quickly. Nope, the Demo was just too good to pass this up. If the timing were different I might never had seen this game with H3 coming in one month. It does lack multiplayer. It does NOT lack in story. Fantastic gameplay with the beautiful artdeco, horror, comedy, complexity of a major city thriving below hundreds of feet of water. Wild.

I would guess I'm approximately 1/2 way through the game on Medium difficulty. I have played slowly to be able to take in every corner, hallway, theater, train station, couch, phone, kitchen, elevator, garden, cooler, safe, etc. It is endless and endlessly enjoyable. The horror factor goes away in slow steady bits as you become more powerful and used to fighting with both your Eve and Adam. There are twists in this game that have me baffled and you must use your brain continually to continue.

One new gaming detail I have found hilarious is camera research. Normally you want to get the jump on a Splicer. You can build your defense against them by pulling our your camera and taking pictures of the different Splicers. Spider, Thuggish, Huidini and others. That is a Spider Splicer in the picture above. It is hilarious if you don't take a weapon or power to them and try and sneak a picture first. Benefits your stats and your fun. Now that picture above shows the spider splicer on the ceiling above the Little Sister. What is more scary than a little girl? A little girl who is protected by her Big Daddy, Mr. B, Bubbles. That little girl has you in a dilemna when it comes time to get more Adam. She is harvesting it from dead bodies and you can Harvest her or Save her. One gives you twice the amount of Adam. You choose, but each one has a future significance. And you can't come close to her until you stop Big Daddy first. Big Daddy has all sorts of significance as the game goes on. It is really good stuff 2130.
Enjoy the next month and get your world set for Halo 3. It is almost time.

Great review Arm. And I noticed it did the trick. Glad to see you on Bio last night Shark.

I'm definitely becoming desensitized to the creepiness of the game the more I play it. I'm now completely focused on the story and the strategy aspects. And the world is so beautifully rendered I often just stop to look around.

On a different note, I'm sure you've seen me playing the Skate demo (a lot). FWIW, this game is so much more fun than Tony Hawk. We'll see how difficult they make the final version but I love how the controls and the tricks have a more natural and realistic feel to them. It will be my respite from H3 when the need arises.

Less than one month until we're all playing together again...
