This explanation brings back the sad days of windows95 running the soft DOS programs, or more currently OSX running a soft version of OS9 as it cannot run natively on the physical hardware of my G5 – which ironically has the same processors as the 360. A case in point of how bad these problems can be illustrated by the problems I have accessing my email here at work. My OS9 disk is virtual, and has to be loaded into memory, then launches our version of MS Outlook. I have to wait about 8 minutes until the login times-out, then it will sync with our antiquated exchange server. This fix comes strait from MS and is the best solution they have for us, short of upgrading our email server. Not a perfect fix, but I consider myself one of the lucky ones, for several people with the new G5s, outlook will not run, and they are forced to use a clunky java interface. When an OS has to run a program emulating another operating system – and in this case also emulate a proprietary video card – to then run another program, you are asking for trouble.
After reading the article, I WILL be keeping my 1st generation X-Box around.
For those who survived my first rant and dare to read on, I have one addtitional thought on this topic. Myself being an early adopter of HD, I have to admit, that if they simply re-rendered my favroite games at 720P, I would repuchase at least 7-10 of my favorite titles for the going $60.00. Assuming the source resolution is already there, it seem like it would be a much easier fix for them dealing with the backwards compatibility, and they would be laughing all the way to the bank beacuse of people like me.
The 2130 Clan is a casual group of older gamers comprised of friends, family and those closely removed. We mostly play on Xbox Live, some play WOW. We believe online gaming is most enjoyable when played with honor and sportsmanship.
