Rossco's Bachelor Party in Puerto Vallarta

From rr1ryno: YO, here's some pics from our bachelor party adventure in Puerto Vallarta.....good weather, good cocktails, good hotel, good fishing and good times had by all..... to cap it off we chilled with ICE CUBE ("you can do it, put yo back into it") at the airport..... I think you've met Rossco. I'm the guy with the loud shorts next to Cube and furthest right in the middle pic. Tsing did not go fishing, but is with Cube.... tallest guy in the back (maroon Tshirt). Who's Next is in both group shots and is right next to Rossco in both pics (white visor in middle pic, white Tshirt in bottom photo).

For the love of Cars

I'm sooooo happy! My most anticipated title of the summer hit store shelves yesterday and delivered on all cylinders. Forza Motorsport 2 has been released, and wheel or no wheel, racing fans and fans of tuner cars from old to new will enjoy this Xbox 360 update of the original classic.

Packed with tracks, over 300 cars, and some great multiplayer features. Add in all the traditional customization that Forza is known for, and the best sim racing on any console brings it home full throttle.

The clan will be well represented by my 2003 Nissan 350Z in the traditional teal/grey paint out on the multiplayer tracks.

2130 in Portlandia

Thanks to the NW chapter of the 2130 for taking Tenlin and Free to a pro soccer game over the weekend. It was great to see Mondo, Stephanie, McKenzie and Sharkie again, and to meet Swede Snake for the first time. The soccer match was a 0-0 tie. Photos: 1) Apple's newest technological revolutionalization: the iPoop. 2) 2130 pwns Portland. 3) Timber Jim fires up the Timbers Army; these guys know how to watch a soccer game. 4) Some games are better than others; kid plays Tetris during the soccer game. 5) Portland Timbers vs. Carolina Teabag Recepticles. 6) Broken Halo, best beer evar! 7) Free and Tenlin take in the game. 8) Mondo does his best "don't bother me I'm playing Halo" face. 9) PGE Park, home of the Portland Timbers.

The Blog Turns Two

Bake a cake and light the candles, our little distraction was born two years ago today. Some things have changed (Sharkie got married!), and some things have stayed the same (the scum of Xbox Live still exist). Tenlin and I just happen to be in Portland this weekend, so we'll celebrate tomorrow with Sharkie and Mondo.

Thanks for all the good times everybody.

Speculation: Map Editor in Halo 3?

So, both Halo CE and Halo 2 for the PC shipped with map editors. And now we have the option to share files on the H3 beta. Granted, game recordings seem to be the reson for this option. But what if there was another use for it? Far Cry proved that map editing is possible on a console, Bungie has past experience building map editors, tha fanboys are crying out for legit ways to mod content, and now we have a way to share files through Halo 3. What do you think? Is capture the flag on "Sharkie's Playground" a legit possibility on the 360?

Beta be ready to fight...

Being a bit of a Halo fanboy I was kind of struck by my frustration with the Beta when it came out last week. I found myself a step behind with the controls and some of the new matchmaking lists. The problem was all mine. After reading some of the Bungie.net info pages and getting three nights of gaming on the Beta it has all opened up. And once we had a larger group of the 2130 on there it was a party.
I'm also glad it is a Beta. Knowing that the final game will have more of the detailed touches is good to know.
The lobby is very easy to navigate and I like being able to see each players 'service record'. The setups are numerous for individual settings making your controls just right. The controls definitely are faster and better than H2. But it took me three nights to get them down. I still hit 'X' too much and if I have the Power Drainer I remember a bit to harshly what 'X' does now. Those activate options are really getting interesting. Free pointed out how Sharkie is using the 'Shield' very effectively so far. I believe those options will win a lot of close games and be the difference.
Once the controls become second nature it goes back to team play. I would recommend doing some Rumble Pit games by yourself to get the feel for the game. You can run around and learn locations of weapons and how to enter base areas and not feel like you have to help a team. In team games the play is just like H2. You have to stay working as a team. Regroup often and fight together. That is one of my favorite parts of Halo multiplayer. Unless you have a ringer 15 year old on your team(Skillz for Killz), you have to play together.
The Sword is not in the Beta. I think that was a good move. The Spartan Laser has taken its place in a way. A three second charge and you have a kill. The Spiker is very effective dual wielding. The now not dual wieldable Needler is much more powerful. Great in close quarter hallways. The rocket does not track anymore and I like that. Its splash damage does seem a lot stronger. The Assault Rifle is a good starting weapon and the BR seems a bit tighter and less effective. My favorite change is the Plasma Pistol does not track anymore. Its best use is now to stop vehicles. Any vehicle it hits stops for a short time and you can expect a frag when it does. No more 'Noob Combo' where that tracking ball of plasma smacks you from 100 yards away.
It will be fun to see what weapon changes are made in the final game and what weapons will be included that aren't in the Beta. Maybe a Flamethrower return.
The theater playback function is fun and will only get better with the final game. The maps are a lot of fun and the look is still Halo but with some nice touches that I assume will look even better in Sept.
I hope to see everyone play the Beta until it ends in June and look forward to running my AR up your MJOLNIR.

Beta Delay gives Orbison a chance to play...

This morning was not your normal day. Got on Live to download the H3 Beta and found the same problem everyone else has had. Nothing available. www.bungie.net posted they were working on it with the Live team. So I dropped into Crackdown and looky what I found. Thanks for having a delay Beta! Without that delay who knows how long I would have gone before becoming an Orbison. 500th in the bank.

H3 Beta Whining

Mondo probably has his beta codes, but those of us with Crackdown are still waiting to get the download enabled.

In the meantime, I am just enjoying the whining on the Intertubes. Here are some choice quotes that I've pulled this morning.

"This is not cool I bought this stupid game for Halo and when the time comes
they dont deliver. Shouldnt they test these types of things it seems really
rediculous." -Crackdown Forum (Uh, yeah, it's a "beta", you are testing...hey, can't download...Bug Report!)

"i still think its bs dude. why have this huge countdown, every1 wake up at 5 in the morning, and sit at a lame crackdown screen for 2 hours? and counting.." -Bungie Forum (Last I checked, it's not 5AM everywhere...someone needs to catch the bus and go to geography calss. It's probably a short bus.)

"They should give us extra maps since we paid for crackdown. In return for patience" -Bungie Forum (Yeah, because rainbows give us gold too.)

"Not at 8 a.m. EDT like i was promised when i purchased the game. i am just stating that you are not allowed to promise a consumer something and then not deliver. it is ILLEGAL" -Bungie Forum (Ah, the future lawyers of America, aren't they great?)

"Stop being petulant." -Bungie Forum (While I agreed with tis poster, most of the forum readers will have to go google this word.)

"Bungie better extend the beta by how long the delay is." -Bungie Forum (Yep, because they OWE you. I think the funnier part is that this was posted 56 minutes afer 5am.)

Ok, I could go on, but I'll stop now because I'm giggling too much. See you all on H3 tonight! :)

Halo 3, 2, 1...

The countdown has begun. I'm guessing the beta goes live tonight at midnight. Anybody going to stay up to find out? Here's a guide to the beta from Bungie.

[Shark Edit:] Be sure to pick up your RvB guide to the beta from Marketplace (Gaming Community Videos Red vs. Blue).

I am officially envious

I am eating my words about not having any trouble waiting for the Full H3 game to come out after watching this video. I know the 2130 will be well represented in the beta, and am now very sad that I will not be one of you. Enjoy!

Calling All Cars

It is known that the heart of the 2130 is the shooter, but there are a few drivers in our ranks. The Forza 2 demo is a brilliant illustration of the amazing graphics and physics this game will deliver. I think this game may even live up to the amazing hype as did G.O.W. I would pay the $60 for more of what the demo offers lots of cars and challenging tracks – knowing we can expect amazing freedom to customize the cars and make them our very own. Sharkies tribute Audi TT to all the Canadians comes to mind. This is the first true driving simulator for the 360 where you win by driving the fastest, cleanest line on a race course, rather than being awarded for drifting and “style” on city streets. The time penalty system keeps you honest, so that you cannot win by stuffing a rival off track in a tight corner. My last note is that the wireless racing wheel really brings this game to life. The forced feedback really pulls you in. Feeling the braking, or the car come loose if you apply too much throttle leaving a turn make it one of the most immersive game. The game is set to hit the street in two weeks, so check out the demo.

The 500th Armleg Orb

I come home yesterday and little Jack says you got something in the mail. "Dad, its from ROSSCO." Nice news to hear and now I'm curious. So I open up this tube that is making sounds while I cut the tape from it. And there it is...my 500th Crackdown Orb. ROSSCO let me know that he couldn't find his but somehow he found mine.

That was some serious goodness. I'm still laughing. What the picture doesn't show is the 'running/agility man' he wrote on the other side of the Orb. And the thing makes different sounds when you throw it around.

And then came some GREAT news on Crackdown and new Downloadable Content that is coming. "easier orb hunting for the last 50% of agility orbs, driving fixes, the ability to reset gang leaders" and more vehicles. Enjoy.

Wednesday Notes

Ah yes, a beautiful Wednesday in the gaming world (and very nice outside as well). Let's see what is going on as there are some news and notes.

As you should know by now, the Spring Dashboard Update has dropped onto Live as of this morning. The dashboard update adds some really great features.
  • Windows Live Messenger Integration (outstanding!)
  • Marketplace now resides on its own blade.
  • Achievements now show the point value in the popup.
  • New progressive download controls provide easy access to optimal viewing options by letting people fast-forward, rewind, pause and resume as their video is downloaded from Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
  • Low-power/auto shutoff for downloads.
  • The name of game in tray is now displayed in the dashboard (with info about the game when you highlight it).

In other news, another clanner has reached a milestone. Swede Snake passed her 1k gamerscore mark when she completed the 20K points achievement in Lumines Live this weekend. Woot.

On the racing front, the Forza 2 demo is expected to hit marketplace in the next 24-hours. This is a must-buy when it comes out on the 28th, but grab the demo to hold you over until then.

Lastly, what an awesome night in H2 last night. Hopefully we will do that more often!

A very good wake up call.

If you read any gaming sites you rarely get a surprise in what is coming to the console. Gears of War seems to break that mold. Four new MAPS out this Thursday. Sweet Deamba!
