Bungie.net has shared a new Halo 3 Brute ViDoc

Bungie.net posted some news about a ViDoc that will be up on Xbox Marketplace Weds. morning the 20th. I plan to wake up and watch the 7 minute (fanboys know Bungie loves the number 7) ViDoc while eating my Halo Cereal with delicious Grunt marshmallows.

I usually eat my Halo Cereal to this NSFW --X rated material here. No nudity, but the language is malo.

I'm happy to change the video I watch. Sometimes my Halo Cereal has some yummy Cortana in there too.

Looks like Ubisoft is going to release a patch soon for the problems we've been having with multiplayer. Seems like this comic is applicable to Gears as well.

Sharkie's XNA Game?

While watching a video montage of some games that have been created using Microsoft's XNA software, I noticed one game in particular that could very well be from a certain airplane-loving clan member...

Even though I doubt he'd spell his own name wrong, we can only hope that Sharkie has been staying up late at night working on a new video game. The profits of course will all go toward the next clan summit.

One part of that video shows the game creation process and it's basically drag-and-drop. If video games could be made that easily and shared over the Marketplace, I think Microsoft might have the next YouTube on their hands. What kind of game would you create?

When?

With A Little Help From My Friend

Congratulations to Timo and Armleg for completing Gears of War on Insane Difficulty. According to Timo, in order to take down RAAAM, the final boss, he had to shoot him 11+ times in the head with the torque bow while Armleg sniped him repeatedly. Way to go guys.

RB6V: First Impressions

A few notes...

I love the audio and video in this game. I have trouble concentrating on the gameplay because I'm continually blown away by the graphics and audio.

The maps (I've not played 'em all) are huge and offer lots of cover and lots of sniping locations. Some of the maps (The Dam) seem almost two big for only 8 players.

The campaign (or whatever it's called) is really fun. I'm still in some faux-Mexican village. I can hardly wait to get to Vegas. I'd like to play some online co-op with someone at some point. Like GoW, the AI squaddies are sometimes hard to control when things get hot.

In multi-player mode on Live, the game has locked up 4 times in 4 hours of play. For no consistent reason, sometimes the game just locks up and I have to reboot my system since the console is not taking any input.

In multi-player mode on Live, I sometimes cannot connect to sessions after receiving an invite. I respond to the invite, the game loads. I then get one of two errors: Session not available, or Network problems prevent you from joining that session.

Chat while playing on Live seems to be pretty buggy. Lots of echoes, lots of people with no mike or no audio. This was also a huge problem in Black Arrow. When we first started playing RB6, there was never a problem with chat audio... Oh wellz

Overall - the game is pretty fun. I look forward to playing more of the maps, more of the game types, and maybe some co-op campaign.

Also - let me say that I'm thrilled that Sachel has come back to Live. All it took was another RB6 release!

Proposed Weekly Gaming Schedule

At a bare minimum, I propose the following 2130 gaming schedule:

Monday RB6V
Tuesday Gears of War
Wednesday H2
Thursday DDR4: Sachel's Revenge

Or...we could just log onto live and see what everyone else is playing...

The Wii Wasn't Created Overnight

The Wii and its "revolutionary" Wii-mote have taken the gaming world by storm. But it's not the first time Nintendo's tried to get you to wave your arms at the television. Behold the bastard child of the Wii-mote: the Nintendo Power Glove. Warning: Mucho foul language ahead so wear your headphones if you're at work.

Superman is One Fun Demo

At Dunkel's recommendation, I downloaded the Superman Returns demo from the Marketplace yesterday and really had fun messing around with it. You can pick up and huck just about anything on the map. You can fly and run really fast. You can blow (yeah, I know), burn and freeze the shit out of just about anything on the map. And you can't hurt yourself because you're Superman dammit! I probably won't end up buying this game, but I do recommend the demo if you like sandbox environments and causing great havok with super abilities.

Rainbow Six: Vegas Multiplayer Demo Today

Gotta say it's been great playing GOW with the clan lately. We were scattered across multiple games for a while there, but not anymore. The few glitches we've encountered in Gears are annoying (muted voices WTF?) but overall I like the game a lot.

That said, another contender for bringing the 2130 together is Rainbow Six: Vegas. It's what we started with (I can still hear Sachel saying "button" with the desperation of a crack addict), and the single player demo is very fun. Today the multiplayer demo has been released on Live. I'm not sure how much functionality will be included in the demo, but it'll be interesting to see how it stacks up against Gears and H2. I don't know if tonight's a good night to try it out, maybe next week sometime. But download it over the weekend if you can.

Long live the 2130!

[Update: Looks like 4-player co-op will also be included in the demo.]

I get to post the H3 News!

Yep, for our 361'st post (pretty cool), all the Halo 3 news hit today on the fifth anniversary of Halo:CE.

The quick summary...
  • 60-second somewaht-cgi commerical during ESPN's MNF on December 4th
  • New multiplayer Halo 2 maps for Xbox 360 players! (wooooooo!)
  • Halo 3 Public Beta (360 only) in the Spring.

Get to all the usual places or Bungie for the scoop.

Gears Heads

I only have one night under my belt with Gears of War, but it was a really fun night. The single-player game is very cool. I've yet to play online co-op but Timo and Termas had a good time with it last night. Multiplayer options are limited. One example is that you can't enter into a match as a team. You can choose sides in the lobby and eventually get your friends on the same team, but it's not as elegant or clan-friendly as Halo 2 (why nobody copies the H2 interface is baffling). The upside is that the randoms we played against were pleasant and you couldn't hear them talking during gameplay. Strategy is a big part of the game especially when it comes to reviving fallen teammates. The chainsaw and curb stomp moves are gruesomely satisfying. I look forward to playing GOW with more of the clan. [Comic from PA]

Gears of Tuesday

According to our local EB Games, we'll be able to pick up Gears of War preorders tomorrow afternoon/evening. If so, I'd like to suggest postponing our regular night of Halo for a GOW Noobfest -- nothing permanent, just for tomorrow. Does everybody have it preordered? Don't forget to stock up on 2-stroke fuel for your chainsaw.

On a Halo note, there are some first-hand impressions of Halo 3 here.

Game Invite Sent

A strange and sad thing happened last night. Timo, Armleg, Rossco and myself were playing Chrome Hounds when Sharkie sent a game invite for Halo 2. In the past, this would have meant an automatic game switch and the 2130 regrouping in the familiar world of Halo. Last night, however, it didn't happen. Don't get me wrong, we would have loved to play with Sharkie but the action was happening in Chrome Hounds and we didn't want to let it go. With Chrome Hounds occupying our attention now, and Gears of War and Rainbow 6 Vegas on the horizon, could this be the end of Halo 2? My guess is no. H2 play time will decrease significantly but I'm willing to bet we'll still fire it up every now and then until H3, and the much anticipated Man Cannon, finally arrives.

On a similar note, I receieved the demo disc for Rainbow 6 Vegas on Friday. It came with the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine. I have to say the game is really good. It takes the best of RB6, Slpinter Cell and Ghost Recon and blends them into a well-crafted and visually stunning game. The controls are easy to pick up and the flow of the game is excellent. Like GRAW and GOW, using cover is the key to survival. But unlike GRAW, going in an out of cover flows smoothly, making for a better paced game. The team controls are much improved and your teammates actually help instead of dying all the time like GRAW.

Turns out we'll have to wait until November 20 (21st actually) for Vegas to be released. That means there will be plenty of time to play Gears of War, and maybe some Halo 2 thrown in for good measure.

Gears of War Rules!

RB6 or GOW?

As much as I still enjoy playing Halo 2, I'm ready for a legit multiplayer game on the 360. A few of us have really been digging Chrome Hounds, but our best bet is probably going to come in November. Rainbow 6 Vegas (Nov. 7th) or Gears of War (Nov. 12th)? Which game do you think will be better for the clan?

I'm all for the decoy method.

Halo Wars Trailer

I'm not much of a strategy guy, but it'll be cool to see how they expand the Halo universe with this game. Makes me wonder though, with the announcement of this game and the one Peter Jackson is creating, will Halo 3 give us a true ending? Will we really Finish the Fight?

French Todds' Not Spotted So Far

Greetings 2130 clan. I should have brought my 360 to Annecy, France with me. I can't sleep so well so I am awake when you're on anyway.

I have looked into the present, past and future and I am happy to report that I have not encountered les Todds (Gronke au Mondefraiche) punching it out. I have trolled the Geneva suburbs as well - so far I haven't seen jacque squat!

One thing that I am convinced of, however, is that geeks are basically all alike. Here's a scene I spied on the tele. The 360 was shown as well.

It's Time Again for...Time Machine 2130!

My latest travels into the future revealed another disturbing glimpse at what's to come. Here we see both Tenlin and Free playing some futuristic virtual reality game. I wasn't able to get many details, but apparently we'll soon have video game controllers implanted into our bodies. This next-gen setup will allow players to "see" and "play" anywhere, at any time. Tenlin seems to have really mastered this new control scheme. I got pwned.

Pure Energy

Some Halo gamers have their cake and eat it TOO.

This video is of David Walsh.

He is on the MLG (major league gamers) team Final Boss that signed the 1 million dollar deal. I guess he is a guy we don't want to meet up with on Live. Can you imagine playing against him and his team? I actually could picture the carnage.

Spreading the Love

As is good from time to time, you have to do some spring cleaning and get a little variety in your gameplay fun. So, as a first shot (before I have to actually meet in-person some craigslist freak), I'm putting the following games up for buy/trade. All I ask is $20/game, or a good trade if you'd like to swap.

Feel free to edit and add to this post your games as well.

Shark's Used Games ($20/per, I'll take care of shipping):
  • Kameo
  • GRAW
  • Fight Night 3
  • NHL 2k6

Also, for Ryno (or anyone else), I've got a bunch o' Xbox games that I'll part with for $10/per. Drop me an email if you've got questions.

Time Machine 2130 pt. 2

What will the year 2130 bring? Unfortunately, from the looks of this trip in the old time machine, it'll bring brotherly squabble. Here we catch a glimpse of Gronk and Mondo's future. Mondo has just refused to let Gronk have the sniper rifle during a game of Halo 14 (they can play during the day now that they're retired, and neighbors).

Gold Harvesting and Real Estate Development in Virtual Worlds?

The Australian Broadcast Corp's show, Background Briefing, did an excellent piece on the virtual economies of the game world. Fappers Should be Minimized with H3 and the 360

This LINK is an article from The Escapist that talks about the morons that Live gaming has to deal with. It also spells out how the four zones of gaming that the 360 has should make our gaming more enjoyable when H3 comes out. Because we will play with Recreational gamers and the 'Underground' players will have their world of fapping. We could test ourselves in the "Famliy" zone but I think staying in Recreational is a good idea until proven differently.
What do you think?

Hump a Hummer!

As we approach $4 a gallon on our way to $5 we are using more gas than ever. Instead of being teabagged by the huge monsters of the road some people are fighting back. These gas suckers don't have a chance against the HUMPING public. Let's join in and Hump a Hummer today. It's kind of like warm apple pie.

Happy Humpday: FIGHT!

Calling all clanners who've ever wanted to beat the shit out of Free. You've suffered through bad PhotoShoppings, horrible songs and lame movies, now's your chance to make me pay. Street Fighter II Hyperfighting is now available on XBLM and I downloaded it this morning. There's a nice help section (be sure to look at the controls page as both triggers and bumper buttons are used in the game). It has a nice training mode so you can work on your special moves (also in the help section). And there's a "quarter" mode that should be great for the clan. In quarter mode, four people join the game with two fighting and two watching. The winner stays in the game and the loser goes back to the viewing lobby. Are you ready? You got what it takes to kick some ass? Let's get it on and find out who the top dog is in the 2130.

LAN July 2006 - Fapping Fantastic

Friday Night Lights were on at the Free/Tenlin Dojo. A huge thank you to Free and Tenlin again for hosting a LANtastic evening. One of the highlights was the projector Gronk brought to the wall of gynormous H2 dimensions. Check out the LAN Dojo of gaming delight.

Bonus H2 players were everywhere ... Sleepy, Kuykendall, Dunkel, HawkStalon, Rossco(Did anyone get Rossco's custom faceplate on film), Sharkie(played much later into the evening than normal), VT, Ryno, Ard and guest Canon Fodder Crist. Of course Tenlin, Free, Termas, MadeGronk, Timo, Arrstdvlpmnt & myself were gaming away too.

Rossco could you post a link to the website that you found to do the 360 custom faceplates?

The next day we spent a day at La Conchita beach and Free found the skim board soul plane. Smooth. Also had Jenny(Mrs. Armleg), Kelly(Mrs. Termas) and Niki(Mrs. Sister Inlaw) ride in a threesome...in the Surf! Keep it clean. And some of the 2130 hanging at the beach with Termas throwing little ZaneTermas in the air.

Weekend LAN Action

Calling all clan members in the Southern/Central California region (Rossco & Rryno?) for the "Welcome to Zanzibar LAN 2." Friday night will be the LAN at Free & Tenlin's place. We'll have dinner, Island Brew and a bunch of gaming. You know the drill (don't forget your power cord). Cruise over around 6:30-7 pm.

Then, on Saturday, we're all going to recover on the beach at La Conchita. Bring your coolers, surfboards, frisbees, needlers and plenty of sunscreen. I imagine we'll meet at the beach around 11-noon. Leave a comment if you need directions, instructions, etc. and I'll get in touch.

Comic-Con 2006 w/ Frankie O'Connor aka Mr. Bungie

What a day for this Halo freaking freak boy. I had the best time in San Diego. I had to load up the minivan and brought my very excited son Jack. Unexpectedly I also brought my daughter Ellie along too. That required a stroller and a formula of about 3 lbs of 'stuff' per pound of kid. In other words I had to be Dad all day. Jenny was out fishing on a three day trip...that's all I have to say about that.
When we got downtown it was the biggest geek fest I've ever seen. We waited in an hour long line even though we had pre-registered with Storm Troopers, Darth Vader, Pokemon, Transformers...you get the idea. Here is the line outside.

My first stop was to try and get my Halo Graphic Novel signed by the Bungie artist/writers and to chat with my favorite game creators. Success. I found the famous Frankie. He asked if I played multiplayer and I told him about all of the 2130 Clan. He said he recognized the Clan name. Probably from all the emails I've sent him. Being the nicest dude he says I should send him a friends invite and he would be happy to play some night with our Clan. "That might be cool" I said. What a great day and it had just started.

The next stop was the Joyride booth and Jack was looking for the Spartan.

We then ran into some friends from our town who where at the convention for their third day. It was a family vacation for them and they love geeking out. They had just been to the "Lost" panel and where headed to the Jetix panel next. Makers of Power Rangers and a bunch of cartoons like Yin Yang Yow. The writer is Steve Marmel a comedian and nice dude I talked to a while. After that we saw some Storm Troopers.
So Jack and his buddy Connor got a chance to chill with the Imperial grunts.

I had to keep getting my Halo fix so I headed for the Red vs. Blue booth. They had some cool red and blue Spartan helmets to check out.

The booths for Marvel, DC, Transformers all were incredible. The fans were even more insane. We couldn't believe all the fans dressed up. I had some favorites I wanted to share with the Clan.

I also couldn't believe the amount of gaming you could do. The DS booth had at least a hundred DS units to play with. Here is part of that massive booth.

And the SciFi Channel booth

After the show it was still cooking outside so the kids stopped to play in the fountain next to the convention center and Petco Ballpark.

To finish the day I called a taxi bike to take us to our minivan for the drive north and home. San Diego is a great place for this geek fest and I am definitely going back next year.

I also wanted to share with the Clan one of the pages from my Halo Graphic Novel that got signed. You can see the Frankie signature with a Mister Chief sketch on that right page in the upper left.

Blog Updates

Just wanted to let you all know about two new features on the blog. First, we now have access to Sharkie's awesome new 2130 Clan Live Halo Stats page via the links section right above the gamercards. Big thanks to Sharkie for setting this badboy up! Second, is a feature Blogger installed where you can do a search within our blog. It's at the top on the Blogger bar. See you on tonight.

Halo 2 Tuesday 2130

What are we going to call Halo 3 nights?

Sharkie's Pink-colored Rupee Land

Turns out Sharkie's recent absence had nothing to do with vacation. He was actually working on his very first video game. A quick summary of the plot as described by the Shark man himself:

"[The] game's plot follows an average middle-aged guy ... [who] finds himself mixed up in a sort of wager. An old man named Rupee-ji ... invites our hero to collect the familiar currency of Hyrule and toss it into the spring. As a result, he opens up a path to the 'Happy Land,' a paradise where wine, women, and song are in ample supply. As soon as he agrees to give it a try, the protagonist is transformed and appears wearing the familiar Tingle outfit."

You can read all about the development HERE and then, if you're brave, you can play the game HERE. Thanks for the good times Shark.

Armleg hits 75K

Congrats to our own Halo 2 junkie Armleg, with his last kill at 12:30 AM this morning, hit exacly 75,000 kills in H2.

Arm hits the 75K mark having played 6,404 games. He has also died 55,546 times (for a k/d ratio of +1.35), assisted on 19,145 other kills, and scored a total of 101,269 points.

No, I don't know how many hours it took him to do this, but it must be, "a lot".

The next closest clan members in kills is Sharkie at 31,684, Woody with 2,982 games played, and Sharkie in score with 45,130.

Edit 2: Now it updates every 2 hours! Weblink. The list is sortable by clicking on the column headers.

"Drop the bottle rocket, mam!"

Professional vigilante
MasterGronkwas
spotted over the
weekend helping
local Police crack
down on the illegal
use of Fireworks.
Admittedly under-
staffed, Police Cheif
Locopoopypants
was grateful for the
help and saluted
Gronk's ability to
teabag offenders
into submission. Said Gronk, "Just doing my part to keep New Mombasa safe from noob bitches."

TSL: Meet Teh 1337

This Spartan Life has a new module out for Ep. 3. You can watch it on You Tube or at the TSL Web site. They also did some Webisodes for Spike TV but I'm getting megalag when I try to watch them. Anybody able to view them smoothly? Is it just me and my Mac?

Game Play May Change During Online Play

You know those nights? You wait a long time for matches to start and when you get into a game it is full of fools yelling crap and causing grief. HERE is a video made by a group of casual gamers who had that same experience and decided to fight back. When you have some time download this and enjoy the video. We all can relate to both the Blue and the Griefing Red teams.
