I was browsing Bungie.net recently and came across the term Carney Holes. Carney Holes are not homes for circus folk -- nomads, you know, smell like cabbage, small hands -- they're spots on the map where a player can have a distinct advantage. Clicking on the link brought me to the Halo version of Wikipedia, called Halowiki, something I was vaguely aware existed but never really checked out. It's got a wealth of information, including tips, and is a must-read for anyone wanting to improve their skills and knowledge of Halo.

Life of the Shark and Single

So I have found myself recently singlefied. These things happen, yes? The interesting thing is, I haven't been single for so long that there are various things that are hilarious about our different behavior when a species of the opposite sex isn't there to give you "the look" when you are about to make yourself look stupid. Here, in no particular order, are some insights into the Single Life for the Shark Guy.

• Screaming at your buddies on Xbox Live --- because the cat doesn't care.
• You go shopping on Friday nights, about 8pm, because that's when all the single girls do.
• You no longer have to share the Xbox because she's playing Fable.
• Halo 2, check. Mikes, check. Underwear, check.
• Ever gone to the store and bought just milk, batteries, and a camera. Yeah, I got some good looks for that one. (The Milk was for breakfast, the batteries for my GPS, and the camera for a flight the next day -- but at 10pm, the checker gave me that look of "oh my, you are a kinky one!")
• Speaking of flying, the plane is many pounds lighter on every trip.
• You don't have to empty the bathroom garbage can as much.
• Surprisingly, you still have to cook and do dishes just the same amount. I'm not so neanderthal that I'd resort to frozen food all week.
• Dating sucks. I never really had to "date" anyone I met. Now I have to learn the whole game. It's harder than DDR...DDR2 even.
• You always get to sleep on time because she isn't keeping the bedroom light on to read.
• The 61" DLP TV is NOW on the budget.

Ah, but alas, the list of good things is longer. So, I'll enjoy this single time, and here's a Mikes hoping the perfect girl walks into my life soon. Until then, thanks for keeping me busy on my quiet nights. (And if you know any cute, smart, 22-26 girls...you know my number) ;)

Actually, this was the the trials and tribulations of my first recording from the Xbox. But I still can't figure out how to set up the "cameraman" so he appears without a weapon or reticle. One Web site said that Red vs. Blue adds the black bars to cover up the radar, health, etc. which makes sense. But how do they get rid of the reticle? The Red vs. Blue FAQ listed the equipment they use to make their vids: 4 Xboxes, Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition. I'm not familiar with those programs. Maybe one of them can delete the reticle? Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.

X360 Release Date and Price?

Some reports out on the net today point for the X360 release date to be November 4th, with a msrp of $299 (not suprising). Top games would be bumped up to $59.99 (some pressure from EA on this one -- they have been wanting to go from $50 to $60/game for a while) and would likely go on sale/drop price after a few weeks.

November 4 is a good date though. Roughly 93 days to launch. You'll see me in line.
